About

Academic neurosurgeon with more than 15 years of clinical, academic, research and surgical education experience, including 10 complete years as faculty at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. My practice has combined high-volume independent neurosurgery with resident education, clinical research and subspecialty development across complex spine, functional neurosurgery and radiosurgery. I have independently performed more than 3,500 neurosurgical procedures as an attending/faculty surgeon, exclusive of procedures performed during fellowship training.

Six-year direct-entry neurosurgery residency and advanced specialty training. Additional qualifications: DNB and MNMS.

Academic Work

My academic work is closely aligned with my clinical practice, with a major emphasis on spine surgery followed by functional neurosurgery, neuromodulation and radiosurgery. My academic record includes 276 peer-reviewed publications, 28 book chapters, more than 3,000 citations and two edited cervical-spine books. I am available for a faculty appointment beginning mid-2027.

Spine Research

Extensive work in cervical myelopathy, craniovertebral junction disorders, spinal trauma and spine outcomes. I proposed the AIIMS Cervical Myelopathy Score and have worked extensively on atypical symptoms of cervical spondylotic myelopathy. My prospective research includes a randomized PROBE phase III study comparing posterior cervical fixation with long-term cervical collar treatment for Hirayama disease, as well as a prospective randomized study of expansile duraplasty in complete traumatic cervical spinal cord injury. I also edited two books devoted to traumatic and degenerative cervical spine disease.

Functional Neurosurgery Research

Research spanning DBS, Parkinson disease, dystonia, pallidotomy, neuromodulation and MR-guided focused ultrasound, including clinical outcomes research, evidence synthesis and collaborative projects.

Teaching & Editorial Leadership

Resident and fellow education, seminars, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality conferences. I have mentored the dissertations of 10 neurosurgery residents and supervised a PhD candidate. Section Editor, World Neurosurgery, with editorial roles in Neurology India, Indian Journal of Neurotrauma and Frontiers in Surgery.
